Curriculum
At Waikerie High School, we provide a high-quality education aligned with the Australian Curriculum, ensuring students receive a nationally recognised qualification.
We believe education is about more than academic achievement. Our goal is to nurture confident, capable, and resilient young people who are equipped with the knowledge, skills, and values needed to thrive in an ever-changing world.
Although Waikerie High is a small country school, our community values and dedicated staff enable us to offer a broad, high-quality educational experience. Our size is a strength: it allows us to maintain strong individual connections with students and families, while still delivering an impressive range of subject choices and co-curricular opportunities.

Middle school
At Waikerie High School, our middle school program is designed to provide students with a strong, broad-based foundation across a wide range of subject areas. This approach ensures that students are well-prepared for the increased specialisation and academic rigour of senior secondary studies.
Students in Years 7 and 8 follow a set curriculum with no subject choices, allowing them to experience a balance of both practical and theoretical subjects. This includes exposure to areas such as English, Mathematics, Science, Humanities, the Arts, Technology, and Physical Education, catering to a wide range of interests and learning styles.
As students move into Year 9 and beyond, the number of elective subjects increases, offering them greater flexibility to pursue areas of personal interest and explore potential career pathways. This progressive model supports both academic growth and individual development.
Senior school and SACE
At Waikerie High School, senior students have the opportunity to complete the South Australian Certificate of Education (SACE).
SACE is a state-wide credential that signifies the successful completion of secondary schooling. SACE is essential for entry into university and many TAFE courses and provides a flexible structure that allows students to pursue their interests and career goals.
Students can tailor their senior secondary studies by selecting from a broad range of subjects across academic, vocational, and creative disciplines. This flexibility ensures that all students are supported in achieving their full potential, whether they aim to pursue higher education or enter the workforce.
We are proud of our Year 12 students, whose academic achievements consistently exceed the state average. The vast majority of students who apply for university admission successfully gain entry into their preferred courses.
For students seeking alternative pathways, a variety of vocational subjects are available to develop practical skills and real-world experience for students pursuing employment or training after school.
Vocational Education and Work Experience
At Waikerie High School, one of our key priorities is supporting students through a strong Vocational Education and Training (VET) program. This pathway places a strong emphasis on developing practical, job-ready skills, while also enabling students to gain nationally recognised TAFE modules.
VET programs are offered in a wide range of industry areas including business, technology, agriculture, tourism, and hospitality—all of which are sectors experiencing strong growth in the workforce. These opportunities not only prepare students for employment but also provide a head start for those wishing to pursue further study at TAFE after secondary school.
As part of our commitment to career development, all Year 10 students are required to undertake a week of Work Experience as part of their Exploring Identities and Futures (EIF) studies. This hands-on experience introduces students to real-world work environments and helps them explore potential career pathways.
